This workshop will propose that low-level learners should be presented with prototypical
items of language, with a gradual movement towards more real and more authentic examples
as proficiency increases. For more information, see
a related article by the speaker from the June 1999 issue of JALT's magazine,
The Language Teacher.
Following the workshop will be an opportunity to learn about the University of Birmingham's
MA in TEFL Distance Learning Programme. Terry Shortall is a Course Tutor and Overall
Coordinator for the distance courses at the University of Birmingham (U.K.). See
the resource page for distance learning
on this site for links to further information.
This presentation is based on the speaker's Featured Speaker Workshop at the JALT
National Conference. The speaker's JALT National workshop is scheduled for Friday,
October 8, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The JALT National Conference will be from
October 8-11, 1999, in Maebashi (Gumma Prefecture). For more information on the conference,
