Finally the message has gotten across: oral fluency
and listening in
English is important. The Mombusho now includes it in the national curriculum,
businesses want it in their workers, and students want it in the classroom.
Speech contests have long been recognized as avenues to success for exceptional
students, but perhaps it is time to ask the question, "Can public speaking be
made to work for most students?" This presentation will give answers
to these common expressions of exasperation:
- Teach my high school class presentation skills?! But how?
- Have my students debate! ? Their English isn't good enough!
This workshop covers both the content and the techniques
of teaching speech and debate to low-level learners. Participants will experience
a variety of fun activities guaranteed to work in the classroom. In application,
students will develop fluency, communication skills, confidence and a fondness for
English. The basic skills of public speaking and debate also support expression and
comprehension in writing and reading. Attendance at this workshop will provide teachers
with valuable techniques and activities for their classes and training students for
speech contests.
See the Schedule page for details on the workshop nearest
you!
