The executive committees of KOTESOL and Fukuoka JALT Chapter are proud to announce that Dr. Rodney E. Tyson is the recipient of Fukuoka JALT's "KOTESOL-Vetted Speaker Award". This award was set up to bring noted presenters from Korea to Japan.
Through this award, Dr. Tyson will lead a workshop-presentation entitled "Academic Writing and the Process Approach" in Fukuoka on May 17.
The executive committee of KOTESOL (Korea Teachers Of English to Speakers of Other Languages) issued the call for papers in "The English Connection" magazine. From a number of high-quality applications, the committee chose Dr. Tyson to be brought to Japan to give this presentation, hosted by Fukuoka JALT.
This cooperation between the two organizations is the most recent in a series of steps taken to forge better ties between KOTESOL and the Kyushu-area chapters of JALT. In addition to publicizing each other's major events, a reception for KOTESOL prior to the Fukuoka JALT Book Fair 1998 included representatives from the Miyazaki and Kitakyushu chapters of JALT.
Carl Dusthimer, President of KOTESOL, wrote, "With the run-up to PAC II (Seoul) and PAC III (Kitakyushu), I hope we can forge a lasting relationship between KOTESOL and JALT Fukuoka." (PAC is the Pan Asian Series of Conferences. PAC III, hosted by Kitakyushu JALT, will include the JALT National Conference in 2001.)
Dr. Rodney E. Tyson, MATESOL and PhD (Second Language Acquisition and Teaching), is an Assistant Professor at Daejin University, Republic of Korea (South Korea). He has been teaching in Korea for 10 years.
A complete description of Dr. Tyson's May 17 presentation is available on the Fukuoka JALT Events Calendar.
